Shortage
In the context of the packaging process, Shortage refers to a situation where the actual quantity of an item or material available is less than the planned quantity for a specific packaging operation or order.
-
What constitutes a shortage?
-
Product Shortage:
Not enough products to package a complete order.
-
Packaging Material Shortage:
Not enough primary packaging (e.g., bottles, blister packs), secondary packaging (e.g., cartons, labels), or tertiary packaging (e.g., pallets, stretch wrap) to complete a packaging run.
-
Resource Shortage (less common in "packaging shortage" but related):
Not enough labor, machine time, or other critical resources to meet the packaging demand. While not a material shortage, it can lead to unfulfilled packaging.
