Managing distributions

This page covers the lifecycle management of distributions: creating new distributions, editing their metadata, and copying existing distributions.

Creating a new distribution

Distributions allow several elements (artifacts or custom commands) to perform their respective actions in succession on a device during the subsequent roll-out process. The following steps explain how to create, edit and copy a distribution.

  1. Click Add add_border above the distribution table to create a new distribution.

    The Create Distribution window appears.

    227500
    • Name : Enter a name for the new distribution to be created.

    • Device Type : Select the appropriate device types for the new distribution.

    • Version : Enter the version number for the new distribution to be created.

    • Description : Enter the description for the new distribution to be created.

  2. Click Create to create the new distribution.

The new distribution is displayed first in the distribution table and preselected. Since no elements can be found in the distribution during the initial creation, the detail column with the elements remains empty.

Editing distribution metadata

A distribution can be edited if it is not currently being used for a rollout. You can change the name, description, and version number of a distribution.

236157
  1. Click on "…" in the distribution table to open the advanced settings of the distribution.

    236159

The selected distribution can now be edited or copied here.

  2. Click on Edit Distribution to open the editing window.

    236160

The name, description and version number of the distribution can now be changed.

  3. Click on Save Changes to save the changes.

The distribution metadata has been updated successfully.

To add, remove, or reorder commands within a distribution, see Managing Commands in a Distribution.

Copying distributions

If a distribution has already been used for a rollout, it can no longer be edited and no new commands can be added or deleted. In this case, a copy of the distribution can be created, which can then be edited.

  1. Click "…" in the distribution table to open the advanced settings of the distribution.

    236159

The selected distribution can now be edited or copied here.

  2. Click on Copy Distribution to open the copy window.

    236162

The name, description and version number of the distribution can now be changed.

  3. Click on Save Changes to create a copy of the selected distribution.

The copied distribution now appears in the top position of the table in the distribution overview.
