Introduction to the AGV Control Center module

The module AGV Control Center is used to control Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) from different manufacturers. AGVs are divided into two categories:

  • Line-guided vehicles :

They position themselves using lane markings (e.g. magnetic strips, colored tapes, running rails). These vehicles have a limited degree of freedom and are generally unable to maneuver around obstacles. The driving behavior corresponds to that of rail vehicles.

  • Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) :

They can navigate freely in space as they are equipped with appropriate sensors. The vehicles search for the best route to their destination themselves and independently avoid obstacles. The challenge lies in ensuring that the individual vehicles do not get in each other’s way.

Communication between the AGVs and the AGV Control Center takes place via the MQTT-based (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) VDA 5050 protocol via a separate server.

To create a common route network for all AGVs, the individual reference maps of the AGVs are superimposed as map layers.

When a job is to be executed, the AGV Control Center module selects the shortest route and the nearest AGV with the appropriate capabilities.

Main Function

  • Managing autonomous vehicles

  • Managing transport orders

  • Visualization and management of the current traffic situation

  • Creating and configuring map data

  • Creating and configuring shift breaks

Roles and permissions

All modules of the Nexeed Industrial Application System are based on permissions. Depending on the permissions, different functions are available in a module.
To enable functions, the user is assigned a role based on the desired permission. Permissions are managed in the Multitenant Access Control module.

The standard configuration of the module includes the following roles:

  • AGV-CC 3rd-Level Support

  • AGV-CC Admin

  • AGV-CC Planner

  • AGV-CC Shopfloor

  • AGV-CC View
