Backup and restore

Implementing a proper backup and restore process for SOT is really important since infrastructure can fail at any time.

This manual can only give a general recommendation about the backup and restore policy since the infrastructure management is not considered as part of SOT application operations.

The following persistency layers needs backup:

  • Helm overrides configuration

  • Kubernetes persistent volumes

  • Databases

  • Logs (for forensics and audits)

Please note that, as modules have interdependencies, the individual restore of a module’s data might cause issues on another module as some data dependent data might be missing, e.g. Devices, Lines, users, etc. Please consider this before performing any restore. The best way to avoid issues in other modules is to restore all modules to the desired backup. In other words, to not do a partial restore, but to do a full restore of the whole system.
